I only play MMORPGs to meet E-Girls
Hello. I've been a long time player of MMORPGs. For me, my MMO journey started with Runescape. I played endlessly. Every free moment I could spare while not at school I was playing RS. During that time, I met a fair amount of people. Many of whom I barely remember, but I would eventually quit RS for World of Warcraft.
I started playing during the beginning of BC, but didn't get good until WOTLK, where I ended up getting fairly highly rated in arenas. Nothing too crazy, but it was high enough to show I had a bit of skill. 2500 in WOTLK wasn't too shabby. While doing a raid on an enemy city while completely bored a Girl messaged me some flirtatious message... we ended up talking and dating for 2 years. It didn't end great, but I learned a lot about myself and other people.
Flash forward to 2022. I'm a single dude. I don't get out much, especially now because of the pandemic. I have zero social media aside from reddit and I just don't talk to people that much in general. When I log onto an mmorpg now, it's different than before. In my RS and early WoW days I was just thinking about the game entirely. Now when I open an MMORPG I think... I hope I meet a cute girl on here.
but going back to my WoW story. The reason that girl showed interest in me in the first place was because I was high rated. I can't go into a game with the expectation that I'll get an E-girl when 1) they're a scarcity online 2) They reserve themselves for the high rated or renowned players.
This is part of the reason I believe Pay2Win is as horrible as it is now. In the past to show off, one would purchase a fancy car, drive it around, and garner attention and maybe affection. Now, you can garner the same sort of attention and affection through high ratings / and achievements. So you have a better chance of getting a girl for yourself if you can set yourself apart from other people in game.
I don't like feeling this way. I never want to play an MMORPG if I'm only playing for that reason, I want to play for the love of the game. That's why I've lost my passion for MMORPG's. Thank you to anyone who reads, just wanted to share what I thought.
